DUBOIS – The 2009 Community Days kicked off Friday and continued on until the fireworks display Saturday night.
“It’s been a beautiful weekend,” said Fire Chief Jim Corby after the parade.
The parade this year contained nearly 100 entries. Starting at 6:00 p.m. it lasted till around 8:00 p.m.
“The parade went flawless. Short and quick” said Corby.
Events were widely varied. The Kachunga alligator show usually had filled seating before it began. The Titanic based inflatable side almost always had a line that stretched back to the Penelec fence and had to turn to the side. There were also games such as air filled sumo suits and a train ride for kids.
There was something for everyone. When asked what her favorite thing of the festival was, Deb Shaffer of DuBois answered, “The parade and fireworks, actually.”
“The food’s good. That’s what I came here for,” said Ted Minns of DuBois.
“We struggled at the beginning, be we came through at the end,” said Corby.
There were some fears that the economy might have lead to cut backs this year.
“Nothing’s changed,” said Corby. “We can’t ask for more.”
