CLEARFIELD – After a short executive session, the Clearfield County Commissioners authorized a proposal for a bill of sale in the amount of $183,000 in receipt of an offer to purchase the former Gray Battery & Auto Supply Company building at Tuesday’s meeting.
Commissioner Chairwoman Joan Robinson-McMillen said that last fall, the county had hopes for moving some of its offices from the current Leonard Street location to the downtown area. She said that since then they have looked into downtown locations for facilities that could better serve their needs.
McMillen said that the Children, Youth and Family Services, Veteran’s Affairs, County Planning and the Conservation District would move into the building if they accepted the offer. She said that CYS was among the county’s largest offices.
“The action taken this morning is preliminary action. It signifies the receipt and interest in accepting this offer,” County Solicitor Kim Kesner said.
Kesner indicated that the executive session was for the board to confidentially discuss the price of the building.
McMillen said that the commissioners intend to further explore the fair market value of the building. She said that they could only accept the offer if it’s for the fair market value.
Commissioner Mark McCracken said that they would have the county architect provide a full review and appraisal of the building.
McCracken emphasized that the offer is not a done deal, while a lot must still happen.
“We can at least move forward,” he said.
McMillen said that the commissioners’ doors are always open, and they’re still willing to consider other downtown locations.
