DUBOIS – The City of DuBois’ City Council heard a pitch about what to do with Shower’s Field.
Attorney Terry Noble approached council asking the city to express support for the restoration of the baseball field. According to Noble the field is currently in use by the DuBois Area School District, the American Legion’s league and DuBois Rockets. Penn State DuBois is attempting to get Division 3 status, which may include a baseball team that would potentially also use Shower’s Field.
The land is owned by the City of DuBois, but it is being leased by the DuBois Area School District.
According to Noble, the school district is considering building two new fields as Shower’s Field continues to deteriorate.
There are already plans in place for renovating Shower’s Field. According to John “Herm” Suplizio, city mayor, construction on the surrounding park area will start within a month or so, with the baseball field being one of the remaining portions left to work on.
Some problems that would need fixed in would be adding lighting fixtures and rotating the field. Currently the field doesn’t meet standards that would allow for playoff games to occur in DuBois.
