Richard L. (Rick) Oliver of Smithmill has announced his candidacy for Working Township Supervisor in Gulich Township. He will be running on the Democratic ballot in the Primary Election.
Rick and his wife Mary Ann have been residents of Gulich Township since 1976. They have two sons, Eric and his wife Pam of Scott’s Road, Gulich Township and Mark, who is currently living in France. Rick’s two granddaughters, Brittany and Kristyn attend Moshannon Valley Elementary School.
Knowing well that he does not know every voter in the township, he also realizes they don’t all know him either.
Rick was born in Pittsburgh Pa. In 1949, graduated from Penn Hills High School in 1967 and went on to attend Clarion State College as an Earth Science/Cartography major. In 1971Rick was drafted into the U.S. Army where he was trained and functioned as an Intelligence Analyst and a Vietnamese Linguist serving with the 163 MI Combat Bttn. Upon discharge he served with the Army reserve Hydrologic Surveying detachment out of Pittsburgh.
In 1974 he moved to Clearfield Co. Working in the Engineering Dept. Of C&K Coal Co., Cambria division doing the leasing, prospecting, and mapping of coal reserves. In 1980 he headed the Engineering and Safety dept. Of Anderson Creek Coal and Clay of Ginter, Pa. In 1980 he started Re-Klaim Reclamation Service of Smithmill. Re-Klaim operated two crews, 1 doing reclamation work for the coal industry in central Pa. And the other doing gas well and pipe line reclamation work in the Snow Shoe to Renovo area. Between the two crews employment ranged from 5 to 17 employees, depending on the season. As coal mining slowed in the mid 90’s a change was made to landscaping of large construction sites such as Lowe=s, Wal-Mart, air ports and state and federal funded clean up sites.
In 2005 Rick downsized to a one man light landscaping and contracting firm and is presently doing owner operator work on bridge and utility construction. Rick’s present schedule would allow for at least 20 hrs. A week to dedicate to Gulich Twp. during the summer and more in the winter months.
Rick feels he can bring much experience to a community like Gulich Township. In these difficult economic times, budget decisions must be made wisely within local governments in order to survive the next few years.
Slow at drawing party lines, Rick welcomes votes from all the residents of Gulich Township who are ready for change and movement into the 21st century. He feels the demographics of Gulich Township have changed over the past five to ten years and must be realized in order to meet the demands of the next five to ten years.
Vote for Richard L. Oliver on May 19 and be prepared for a change for the better. He can be reached via email link located on his Web site or at 378-5553. He is interested in hearing from all voters in Gulich Twp.
