CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. was able to recently secure a new fuel efficient delivery vehicle for their local Meals on Wheels and More program, thanks to a national arrangement.
A unique agreement between the Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) and General Motors (GM) enables senior nutrition programs to obtain new vehicles through a special manufacturer cost reduction program. MOWAA has negotiated, what is called in the automobile trade, a
“Fleet Vehicle Purchase Agreement.” Through this agreement, MOWAA members can get the kind of special low pricing that was previously available only to the largest corporate fleets in America.
The Clearfield AAA had already budgeted last July for a replacement delivery vehicle. As the economy slowed and auto producers began offering discounts, it seemed to be the best time to seek what good deals might be available.
“The MOWAA – GM initiative opened up an additional option we couldn’t ignore,” stated John Kordish, CCAAA executive director. “MOWAA really did the work for us, locating an eligible vehicle in dealer stock in our area and then arranging for the fleet purchase discount. Our local Meals on Wheels program has truly benefited from this national relationship, and we can’t thank the Meals on Wheels Association and General Motors enough for their advocacy and generosity.”
Several GM cars and vans are eligible under the program and can be modified by local MOW programs withrefrigerators or ovens to meet unique delivery needs. The new Clearfield Meals on Wheels vehicle is a 2009 Chevy HHR; it was purchased from Brookville Chevrolet.
