ALTOONA – Down 7-1 at one point, Lewistown rallied all the way back to jolt previously-unbeaten Hollidaysburg 14-7 in the 7th Annual Dean Patterson Curve Classic championship game at the Blair County Ballpark Sunday afternoon.
A 10-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth inning secured the improbable win for the Panthers, who entered the eight-team schoolboy baseball tourney at 4-5.
Most Valuable Player Brody Blessing had four hits, including two triples in the decisive sixth, and three runs batted in; while Adam Peachey drove in four runs for the Panthers.
Seven of the first 13 batters registered hits as Hollidaysburg (6-1) scored all of its runs in the first two innings, Sidd Amernini driving in five of them with a single and a home run.
But Panther relievers Matt Bickel and A.J. Scheffel blanked the Golden Tigers over the last five innings, allowing two hits.
Two-run singles by Peachey and Connor Muir highlighted Lewistown\’s big inning after three runs in the fifth closed the gap to 7-4.
Defending champion Clearfield was 1-1 in the tourney, with the loss to Hollidaysburg, 11-1, in the first round.
