CLEARFIELD – Senior projects and a school project making into a national competition brought three students together for Clearfield County Career and Technology Center Community Day last Saturday.
The Community Day event was held to help raise money for local Distributive Education Club of America students Randie Fetzer and Diana Portugal. Both students had received second for their project on cerebral palsy, which qualified them to attend nationals at Anaheim, CA later this month.
DECA needed $3,600 for the trip, and had earned $3,000 prior to this weekend. CCCTC’s Communty Day joined in the effort as part of Randi Fetzer and Ashley McCracken’s senior project needed for graduation. Community was originally meant to take place in the Fall to help districts, but due to the delay was re-purposed to help with the Anaheim trip.
“We had a walk-a-thon last year, and we awanted something bigger,” said McCracken.
Lack of participation lead to the fund raiser to scale back some. The volleyball tournament and walk-a-thon were dropped, although some made donations in lieu of participating in the walk-a-thon.
The car wash, school store, yard sale and baked good sale were still going strong, though. For $10 it was possible to set up a yard sale table. Cars could get washed for $5 per exterior or interior, $10 combined.
“I figured it was for a good cause. Car washes usually are,” said Mike Clingen of Biglerville.
Clingen had learned of the car wash through signs laid out around the area.
Rodney Thompson, marketing and distributive education instructor, oversaw the car wash Saturday, and had lead a car wash the day before for teachers.
