WILLIAMSPORT – The Department of Environmental Protection will host a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on May 7, on the environmental assessment section of a permit application by Eagle Environmental II LP to construct and operate a residual waste landfill in Chest Township, Clearfield County.
The meeting will be held in the Harmony Area High School cafetorium, 5239 Ridge Road, Westover.
Eagle Environmental is proposing a residual waste landfill on 821 acres in Chest Township that would accept an average of 1,500 tons per day, with a daily maximum of 2,500 tons per day. The disposal area would cover 39 acres and the landfill would have a life expectancy of 10 years.
During the public meeting, representatives of the company will provide information about the environmental assessment section of the application, commonly referred to as the harms-benefits analysis.
DEP staff will be present to explain how the environmental assessment review is conducted, accept oral or written comments on the harms-benefits analysis from the public, and answer their questions.
DEP’s residual waste regulations require Eagle Environmental to prove that the landfill’s actual benefits will be greater than its potential harms in order for DEP to proceed with the technical review of the application. Otherwise, the application will be denied.
Citizens who would like to review the environmental assessment section of the application at the DEP Northcentral Regional Office, 208 West Third St., Suite 101, Williamsport, should call Kathy Arndt at 570-327-3693 to schedule an appointment. Copies of the application also have been provided to Chest Township and the Clearfield County commissioners.
Individuals who would like to attend the public meeting and are in need of accommodations as provided for in the Americans with Disabilities Act should contact DEP Community Relations Coordinator Daniel Spadoni at 570-327-3659 or through the Pennsylvania AT&T Relay Service at 1-800-654-5984 (TDD).
