CLEARFIELD – Friday night’s winds were the cause of a power outage that affected 995 Penelec customers in the Grampian area.
According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko, the outage began around 12:50 a.m. Saturday when a large pine tree located near Tree Farm Road. blew over into the main power line. The resulting electrical fault damaged lighting arresters at the Hepburnia substation which caused the power interruption to the area.
Penelec line crews and forestry contractors were called out to remove the tree and restore the line. Also Penelec substation crews were called out to the substation to replace the damaged equipment and then test the main transformer before restoring power around 7:33 Saturday morning.
Several other scattered wind-related outages were also reported through Saturday that affected smaller numbers of customers.
Penelec thanks customers for their patience during restoration and cautions the public to stay clear of all downed wires as they may be energized and dangerous.
