Clearfield County is fortunate to play host to many summer celebrations, both large and small. For decades, one of the first to greet longer days and warmer weather has been the Clearfield Riverfront Festival.
For some time, a small group of volunteers has worked to bring together musical acts and vendors for the June celebration. That group is now looking to the community for assistance.
Neighboring communities boast wonderful festivals with generous donations of time and funding from individuals, organizations and businesses. We are hopeful that the Clearfield area can do the same to ensure that costs such as the fireworks display, bands on the gazebo and many others are paid.
The committee is in need of both financial and physical committments to ensure that the festival remains part of the area’s attractions.
Sadly, 2009 could be the final year for the festival without this type of support.
Businesses and individuals can donate by directing correspondence to Clearfield Riverfront Festival, 1440 Valley Rd., West Decatur, PA 16878.
Those who are able to give of their time should attend the next meeting April 8 at 7 p.m. at Legend’s Sports Bar and Grill in Clearfield or call 592-5870 if you are unable to to attend but would like to help.
This year’s festival will be held June 11, 12 and 13, and the committee invites everyone to take part in the Clearfield area’s welcome to summer with fun, free, family-friendly entertainment.
