BASEBALL
BRADFORD, Pa. – Curwensville Area High School graduates Phil Solley of Grampian and Bart McGary of Curwensville had three hits apiece for Pitt-Bradford last week.
Solley, a sophomore catcher, drove in a run in each of the Panthers\’ three games, a 7-6 loss at Juniata on Wednesday and 15-9 and 5-3 wins over LaRoche in their Allegheny Mountain Athletic Conference openers at Pittsburgh Saturday.
McGary, a sophomore right fielder, singled twice and walked three times but, surprisingly, didn\’t score against Juniata. He clubbed his first home run of the seson in the first game against LaRoche.
In Game 2, McGary threw out a runner at home in the second inning, while Solley singled home the first run and helped save the narrow win by throwing out a LaRoche runner at second on a steal attempt.
Solley is hitting .308 (8-for-26) with five runs batted in and McGary climbed to .250 (6-for-24) with two RBI.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Sophomore Adam Jury of Bigler (Clearfield Area H.S.) alternated at shortstop and designated hitter, rapping three hits and driving in two runs as Slippery Rock (17-7) swept a trio of double-headers over the weekend.
The Rock claimed second place at 5-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division with 8-1 and 9-6 wins over Gannon at Erie Friday and 5-4 and 7-4 home victories over the Golden Knights (2-19, 0-8 PSAC-West) Saturday.
SRU followed up by pounding NCAA Division II East Region rival Bluefield (W.Va.) State 10-4 and 14-4 Sunday.
Jury drove in the go-ahead run with a sixth-inning double in the tight first game Saturday, and The Rock held off Gannon after adding two runs in the seventh.
In Friday\’s opener, Jury singled twice for his ninth multi-hit game.
He scored twice after being walked and hit by a pitch in Game 1 against Bluefield State.
Jury\’s average slipped to .425, still second-best on the team behind Matt Adams (.484) of Philipsburg.
In 23 games, all but one as a starter, Jury is 31-for-73 with six doubles, two home runs and 20 RBIs. He has 10 walks, been hit twice and scored 20 runs.

SOFTBALL
SALEM, W. Va. – Sophomore Brittany Pataky of Clearfield appeared in one game as a pinch-hitter for Lock Haven (15-4) in a five-game run through the Salem (W.Va.) Tournament.
She was hit by a pitch in Saturday\’s 8-0 six-inning win over West Virginia State.
The Lady Eagles, ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II, stretched their winning streak to nine games by defeating four other West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams, Wheeling Jesuit 7-0, West Virginia Wesleyan 3-2, Fairmont State 6-0 and Alderson-Broaddus 14-0 in five innings.
Ace hurler Kristen Erb fired her eighth career no-hitter against Fairmont State and notched all five wins to earn Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Central Division Pitcher of the Week honors for the second week in a row.
She gave up only one earned run while racking up 38 strikeouts in 33 innings.
Pataky\’s batting average remains .167 after nine games, including three starts. She has two hits, walked twice and been hit two times in 16 at-bats.

WOMEN\’S TRACK
CONWAY, S.C. – Westminster senior Rebecca Shiner of Clearfield placed 30th with a time of 2:31.17 in the 800-meter run at the Costal Carolina Shamrock Invitational Saturday.
The race had 46 runners from 22 schools, most of them Division I. Westminster is Division III.
