Camp Hill Resident Tapped for Key PennDOT Position

HARRISBURG – Department of Transportation Secretary Allen D. Biehler, P.E., announced today that Scott Christie, P.E., of Camp Hill has been named deputy secretary for highway administration, effective April 4.

“Scott brings to his position the leadership skills and hands-on approach that is necessary to lead one of PennDOT’s most critical areas, especially as we embark on investing more than $1 billion in federal funds into Pennsylvania roads and bridges through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act,” Biehler said. “Scott’s knowledge and abilities will have an immediate and invaluable positive impact on PennDOT.”

Christie succeeds 37-year PennDOT veteran Rick Hogg, P.E., who retires on April 3 to enjoy more time with his family. An avid outdoorsman, Hogg also plans to spend more time fishing and hunting.

“Rick’s nearly four-decade commitment to PennDOT, his visionary leadership, attention to detail and innovative thinking helped guide the department through some of our darkest and proudest moments,” Biehler said. “He will be missed not just by PennDOT, but by the highway construction industry in Pennsylvania and nationally.”

Prior to his appointment to deputy secretary, Christie served as PennDOT’s District 8 executive where he led the design, construction and maintenance of more than 5,300 miles and nearly 3,500 bridges in the District 8 area that includes Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties.

Christie has spent 30 years in the engineering field, including more than 20 with PennDOT. Since joining PennDOT in 1987, he has held numerous positions including assistant chief bridge engineer, chief bridge engineer and as the director of the Bureau of Design which is responsible for setting standards and performing quality assurance reviews of PennDOT’s highway and bridge design activities.

Christie, a licensed professional engineer, received a master’s degree in structural engineering from Cornell University and a bachelor’s degree in civil and urban engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Christie and his wife, Karen, have two children.
