DUBOIS – Police in Sandy Township are investigating an assault that occurred at Treasure Lake on Sunday.
According to police they were dispatched to a Treasure Lake residence at around 9:12 p.m. Sunday for a domestic assault. A woman from the residence called Clearfield County Control and told them that she and her husband were brutally stabbed several times by a family member who also resided at the residence.
She told police that the attacker was armed with a knife and that he was attempting to gain access to a bathroom that the woman and her husband had locked themselves in. County Control immediately dispatched the STPD and emergency medical services.
While en route to the scene police received additional information that the person had gained access to the bathroom and began assaulting the husband and wife. Police noted that they were already bleeding profusely at this point due to prior stab wounds. Officers gained access to the home through a rear door where they stopped the suspect as he was reportedly in the act of assaulting the family members.
Police noted in their report that the suspect did not fight them and dropped the utility knife he was wielding. He was then taken into custody.
The STPD administered first aid to the husband and wife in an attempt to keep them stabilized from life threatening injuries. EMS personnel arrived and then transported them to an emergency landing zone at the soccer fields in Treasure Lake. The couple was airlifted to a trauma unit.
Police did not release the name of the suspect in their report.
