CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Woman’s Club met recently to discuss upcoming programs and the possibility of disbanding. The club, which was chartered in 1913, celebrated its ninety-fifth anniversary in September.
According to President Michele Fannin, “In spite of our continued involvement in the community and a series of entertaining and informative programs, our attendance figures have never been lower.” Clearfield Woman’s Club has traditionally provided financial support to such groups as the Susquehanna Rural Free Clinic, Clearfield EMS, Marian House, the SPCA, Clearfield Swimming Pool Association, the YMCA, Clearfield Soccer Association, Habitat for Humanity and Clearfield Hospital. No action was taken because a quorum was not present, but members will have an opportunity to ballot at the June 9th banquet.
The next club meeting will be held at the Third Ward Fire Company on April 14 at 7:00 PM and will feature a program by Luella Krieger of Sykesville with her ministry, Visitors from the Past. Visitors from the Past started in 1992 when Luella accepted a call from God to bring His word to life dramatically through sacred portrayals of women of faith and Biblical storytelling. The public is welcome to attend, but groups of five or more are asked to call program chairperson Donna Shaw at 765-3121.
The Clearfield High School Show Choir will provide entertainment for the May 12 meeting. Under the direction of Mel McConnell, the Show Choir is known for its enthusiastic and energetic renditions in song and dance of Broadway show tunes, popular songs and music from the movies. The public is invited to attend.
Following the business meeting, member Jeanne Urban presented a program on floral arranging and care of fresh flowers. She created a centerpiece for Saint Patrick’s Day with flowers donated by Michelle Waroquier of Clearfield Florist. The centerpiece was won by Eleanor Putt Kelly.
