CLEARFIELD – On March 6, PennDOT restricted the Irvona Truss Bridge on state Route 53 to one lane in order to make repairs to the bridge deck. The southbound lane of the bridge is currently closed and flaggers have been in place to guide drivers through an alternating traffic pattern.
Sometime on March 7 PennDOT will begin enforcing the one-lane traffic pattern with a temporary traffic signal. The traffic signal will require vehicles to take turns crossing the bridge. PennDOT expects to complete its repairs by the end of the day March 13.
The Irvona Truss Bridge was built in 1940. It is 274 feet long and carries 4,412 vehicles a day. It is located on SR 53 in the village of Irvona in southern Clearfield County. PennDOT currently plans a full replacement of the bridge in 2010.
