DUBOIS – Police could return to DuBois parks soon.
With the weather improving City of DuBois Mayor John “Herm” Suplizio asked Police Chief Steve Davis having an officer in the park between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
There has been some vandalism, notably a few signs being torn down in the park. The park also sees a large flood of students from the DuBois Area Middle School after school ends.
“Eighty percent are good kids, but you have some, you know,” said Suplizio.
City council member Gary Gilbert asked Davis why it takes the police so long to respond to certain calls.
According to Davis the reason is simply the protocol at the county 911 center. Unless the situation is life or death there are questions that need to be answered. These questions are designed to get information that the caller might not have thought to say, but could be important to those answering the call. This adds time to the response.
If the alert is signaled by an alarm there is even more of a delay built into the system. Fist the company who installed the alarm is notified, usually. They then contact the county 911 center, and from there the police or fire department are notified.
Because of this it can take five to ten minutes before the call is responded to.
