CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County CareerLink Business Service Team announced today that a survey has been created to gauge public awareness about the manufacturing/machining trade. Locally machinists are in high demand and short supply. The team consists of members from various local agencies and is hoping to raise awareness about the availability of good paying machinist jobs in the region in order to draw more people into the field.
“It is expected that 40 percent of the current machining labor force will retire within the next five years and very few individuals are in training now to fill those positions” said Butch Gamarino, North Central Business Service Representative . Local companies are machining a variety of products in our area including high performance firearms, nuclear power plant components, and military parts. Machinists most often operate computers like CMM and CNC machines.
“Machinists can be trained and employed locally and starting wages are competitive “ added Gamarino. The Business Service Team is hoping that both high school, returning adult, and dislocated worker students will take a serious look at the machining field.
For a copy of the survey, stop in at the Clearfield Careerlink, 1125 Linden Street or email Butch Gamarino at butchg@ncentral.com for a link to the online survey.
Those completing the survey will be entered to win a gift basket which contains a backpack, cups, umbrella, calculator personal organizer, pottery, pens, hat, tee shirt, flashlight, and more.
