State Police Investigating ‘Sexting’ Case in Philipsburg
PHILIPSBURG – State police in Philipsburg are investigating a report of ‘sexting’ at the Philipsburg-Osceola Junior High School.
According to police they received a report that nude pictures of a 13-year-old girl were texted to several other students. Police are currently investigating cell phone records. Police stated that juvenile charges may be filed at a later date.

DCPD Continues Search for Missing Girl
DUBOIS – The search for a runaway teeneger continues according to the DuBois City Police Department.
On Feb. 17 police reported that they were called on Feb. 13 for a report of a runaway 16-year-old girl in the area of Pentz Run. She is described as being 125 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, cream colored boots, glasses, a gray shirt and a black jacket with fur lining.

Clearfield County Commissioners Asked to Buy American with Stimulus Money
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners were asked to “Buy American” at their meeting on Tuesday.
Charles Lombardo and Ralph Lippert asked the commissioners to buy American on behalf of the United Steelworkers. Lippert presented the commissioners with a resolution that would commit stimulus money for the purchase of American made items where and when possible.
Lippert said it was there belief that the purchase of services and materials that are American-made are the best way to stimulate the economy.

Legion Burglary Suspect Waives Hearing
CLEARFIELD – The man accused of breaking into the American Legion Post 6 in Clearfield waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Russell G. Flick is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.
According to the affidavit of probable cause the Clearfield Borough Police Department was called to investigate a burglary at Post 6 on Nov. 16. Police were met by a cleaning person at the Legion who said he had arrived just prior to police being called. The cleaning person said he entered the building through the front doors and noted that the doors were secure. The cleaning man told police that he went to the cleaning closet and attempted to enter the bar when he became aware that the building had been burglarized. He then left the building and called police.
Officers entered the building and found that the bar, offices and cooler room had been forcibly entered. Police found a safe that had been entered with a torch. The person responsible then removed about $7,315 in cash. The trust officer and finance officer for Post 6 were contacted and arrived.

CASD Board of Directors Talks Sports League
CLEARFIELD – John Law, Clearfield Area High School principal, said he expected that Clearfield would be invited to join the All Sports League (MAC) at Monday Night’s regular meeting of the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors. The board granted Law permission to accept the invitation if it’s presented.
“I have no reason to think that we won’t,” he said, adding that athletic directors will be getting together at a District 6 location on March 4. He said that he believed they’d be invited to attend the meeting.
He said the league would be a plus for all the school athletic teams. He said that it’d make for easier scheduling on the varsity, junior varsity and junior high levels.

Clearfield County Commissioners Support YMCA Project
CLEARFIELD – As part of its plans to renovate and upgrade their facilities the Clearfield YMCA asked the Clearfield County Commissioners for their support.
Rob Swales, executive director of the Clearfield County Economic Development Authority explained that the Clearfield YMCA needs the county to apply for $1 million in R-CAP grant funds. That money would be reimbursement funds for costs incurred in Phase I of the project.
According to Don Herres, chief executive officer of the Clearfield YMCA, Phase I entails the construction of a new swimming pool, gymnasium, locker room and lobby area.

DuBois City Council Upset Over Regional Water/Sewer Authority Language in Regional Comp Plan
DUBOIS – After being presented with the latest version of the Northwest Clearfield County Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan the DuBois City Council were upset about what they found regarding water and sewer.
DuBois City Council took umbrage with a part of the plan that referenced a regional water/sewer authority.
“I thought we made it very clear we did not want water and sewer in this,” said City Council Member Diane L. Bernardo.
Council has been against the plan’s inclusion of what they interpret as mandating a municipal authority. They believe that an authority would only lead to higher rates for the community.
“There is no reason to study the cash flow [of the water and sewer system] unless to find out the size of the loan needed to wrest the system from DuBois,” said City Solicitor Tony Cherry.

CASD Triples Savings Target, Approves Bond Refinancing
CLEARFIELD – At Monday night’s regular meeting, the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors approved refinancing more than $5 million in outstanding bonds after learning it had tripled its minimum savings target for both the 2003 A and B bond issues and a 2002 bank note.
Gregg McLanahan, senior management consultant with Public Financial Management in Harrisburg, said that the district’s total savings would be $90,824.
“At no point could the savings have been any better than today. It might have been a little luck, but I’ll take it,” he said, of the bonds’ Internet auction.
