PHILIPSBURG – State police in Clearfield are investigating a case of theft by deception that occurred on Thursday at about 5:21 p.m. at the Sheetz in Philipsburg.
According to police a 22-year-old girl phoned a woman in Washington DC and told her that she had been kidnapped. The 22-year-old reportedly told the woman that she would not be released until her abductors received $230. She requested that the money be sent to the Sheetz in Philipsburg.
During the investigation police discovered that the suspect had lied to the woman in Washington DC in an attempt to get money.
Police stated that charges will be filed at a later date.
