Saturday afternoon the Clearfield Bison Cagers will look to do something that hasn\’t been done by a Clearfield squad in 10 years – win a district title. It won’t be an easy time for the Bisons as they take on the second seeded Dutch of St. Marys. The two teams have started to form quite the rivalry as this will be the second this school year that time the teams will meet for a district title (Clearfield defeated St. Marys in football).
The Bisons put on a strong showing Tuesday night against Bradford with the “Big 3” of Jarrin Campman, Matt Shiner, and Parker Herrington accounting for 59 of the team\’s 74 points. If the three seniors can have a game like they did Tuesday they should find a way to come away with the title.
The Dutch are also lead by three star seniors Levi Welder, Brett Quiggle, and Matt Guiddo. John Pettrochi also had a big game for the Dutch in their semifinal win over Punxsutawney, recording a double-double.
The two meetings between the teams have provided a lot of excitement with Clearfield coming away victorious in perhaps their two hardest fought games of the year. The first meeting in early December saw Clearfield come away with a two point victory, 65-63. While in their second contest they were able to pull away from the Dutch late in the game, 70-52. Matt Shiner and Jarrin Campman have led the scoring against their league foe recording 18+ in both contests.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 at Clarion University\’s Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium
