HARRISBURG, Feb. 25 – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, said applications now are available for mini-grants of up to $500 to support individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
“Eligible individuals and families may use this money for a variety of uses — including childcare, camp and recreation programs, conferences and home modifications — as long as the activity occurs between March 1 and August 31,” George said. “The deadline to apply is April 17, but funding is limited and not everyone who applies will be approved.”
George said priority will be given to those who did not receive such a grant previously.
Applications and information are available on the Bureau of Autism Services’ Web site or by calling (1) 866 539-7689 toll free. Only mailed applications postmarked by April 17 will be accepted.
In other news, George said environmental projects in Clearfield County have been approved for more than $950,000 in funding through Pennsylvania’s Growing Greener programs. Local projects approved for funding are:
-Lawrence Twp., $47,465 for design and permitting of a passive system to treat three abandoned mine discharges polluting Montgomery Creek, a water source for Clearfield Borough;
-Pike Twp., $110,022 to design a system to treat the most damaging set of mine discharges to Little Anderson Creek. The six-phase project will take three years to complete;
-Clearfield County Conservation District, $302,699 for sample collection and analysis, design, permitting and bid preparation to build a mine drainage treatment system for Morgan Run, and $47,465 to design, map and permit a mine drainage treatment system for the Dimeling Discharge;
-Emigh Run/Lakeside Watershed Association, $374,945 to build a passive mine-drainage system to treat two discharges on Emigh Run;
-Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Association, $70,000 to resurface roads and ditches with limestone to improve the acidity-impaired Mosquito Creek.
George noted that Clearfield Borough has been awarded an $11,766 Recycling Performance Grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection for recycling more than 1,222 tons of waste in 2006.
