DUBOIS – The results of the local audit for the last fiscal year and the 2008 PSSA science tests were announced at Thursday night’s meeting of the DuBois Area School District Board of Directors.
The good news is that students in the DASD did well on the PSSA. This was the first year that the fourth, eight and eleventh grades took this test. The results were 85 percent, 64 percent and 48 percent, respectively, of each grade achieving scores high enough to fall in the advanced proficiency category. This many students achieving advanced proficiency puts the DASD above the state average for each grade level.
Regarding their audit for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2008 the DASD spent $1 million more than it had received in revenue, according to the Business Manager Sam Kirk Jr.
The school district spent $48.4 million while having a revenue of $47 million, but Kirk mentioned what the district had budgeted.
Going into the year the DASD expected to earn $46 million and to spend $53.3 million. So the school district managed to come in roughly $5 million less over budget than expected.
It was explained that if not for a few irregularly items that the school board could have reduced expenditures even more.
