CLEARFIELD – Claudia M. Read, Democrat has announced her candidacy for re-election for Clearfield County Controller.
Read works diligently to assure Clearfield County taxpayers that their tax dollars, grant funds and even departmental revenues are spent according to County Code, grant specifications, contracts and County policy. Under her direct supervision, the Controller’s Office audits the county’s numerous accounts, and performs the services of Accounts Payable, Human Resources, Payroll and Accounting. New accounting regulations have been implemented providing Clearfield County with a broader picture of its financial standing. Read does the annual conversion necessary for these regulations while continuing to be active in the day-to-day responsibilities and ongoing auditing. She serves as secretary of the Prison Board, the Salary Board and the Retirement Board. Read has furthered her education, while in office, by receiving over 300 CPE Continuing Education Credits. In 2004 Read was elected to and served as the president of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Controllers. This organization works to further the education of Pennsylvania’s County Controllers and their staff. Read is only the third Clearfield County Controller to hold this office, and the first in over 50 years.
After graduating from Clearfield Area High School and Eastern College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration/economics, Read has worked in the accounting field for over 32 years. She has worked, over 12 years, in the County Controller’s Office, and has served as your elected Controller for over 11 years. Read is an active member of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Controllers. She is a member of the Pine Grove Bethel Presbyterian Church, the Clearfield County Emergency Operations Center Disaster Staff, and the Local Emergency Planning Commission. Read resides in Lawrence Township with her husband, Rex, and their youngest daughter, Rebecca.
“I have the accounting background and experience necessary to assure the taxpayers of this county that their tax dollars are being carefully watched and accurately accounted for,” said Read. “I have the experience Clearfield County needs in the County Controller’s Office.”
