CLEARFIELD – Tuesday night part of Locust Street was blocked off in Clearfield after local fire companies received an alert of smoke in The Progress building.
Clearfield Fire Company 1, Lawrence Township Company 1, Hyde and Curwensville all answered the call, but were unable to find any sign of fire, just the smell of smoke that, according to Clearfield Fire Chief Brett Owen, was similar to that of burning wires that was concentrated in the office area of the building.
Fans were placed in doorways to help air out the office and building as the source of the smell was investigated and eventually revealed to be a faulty lighting fixture that had burned out in the ceiling.
No damage was reported.
