RUSH TOWNSHIP – Department of Environmental Protection representative, Chuck Yingling, will be attending the Jan. 27 meeting of the Moshannon Creek Watershed Coalition (MCWC) to present a “draft” of the TMDL report completed for Moshannon Creek.
A Total Maximum Daily Load, or TMDL, is a calculation of the maximum amount of a pollutant that a waterbody can receive and still safely meet water quality standards. The presentation will give watershed citizens an opportunity to hear about the pollution problems in the Moshannon Creek, along with providing an opportunity to comment on the plan.

There will also be discussion on the need for volunteers to help with monthly sampling on MCWC’s Phase II assessment of Moshannon Creek. This assessment is occurring on the segment of Moshannon Creek and its tributaries between Houtzdale and Osceola Mills. The group is looking for volunteers willing to donate 4 hours once a month for the next 10 months to sample discharges on Little Beaver Run and Big Run. The data gathered during this assessment will be used to develop a restoration plan for the watershed. It is a vital component to the restoration of Moshannon Creek.
