CLEARFIELD – Work on the state Route 879 Susquehanna Bridge replacement will hit a new phase this afternoon, as crews open the temporary bridge on the project.
The work zone is located on SR 879 along the Clearfield/Curwensville highway in Lawrence Township.
The temporary bridge will open later this afternoon and will carry traffic on a new alignment, just upstream/south of the current bridge. Use of the temporary bridge will allow PennDOT to continue with replacement of the current steel structure. In order to tie into the temporary bridge traffic pattern, the intersection of Carbon Mine Road has been modified and the stop sign moved back approximately forty feet. Drivers should move through this new traffic pattern with caution.
Glenn.O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor for the $8.4 million dollar replacement project. The project is scheduled for a November 2009 completion. All work is weather dependent.
