SANDY TOWNSHIP – On Monday night the Sandy Township Supervisors approved the 2009 budget which includes a millage increase.
There were no changes to the general budget, so there is still going to be an increase of 3.25 mills bringing the millage to 14.50 mills total. This includes 11.50 mills going towards general government, 2.50 mills for fire protections and .50 mills towards the library.
This is the first increase since 2002.
The sewer and water rates also changed at Monday’s meeting. The sewer rate changed from $11.90/1000 gallons to $13.80/1000 gallons. Water gained $5.50 min to now become $17.00 min. Both are effective this current quarter.
The budget passed with all but one of the supervisors voting for it, and the exception being against.
Sandy Township Supervisor Jim Jeffers voted against the budget proposal with the intent that the supervisors could see if anything could be cut in the light of the turns the economy has been taking.
“As much as I am against the increases, I will vote to pass the budget,” said fellow supervisor Dave Sylvis
Sylvis added at the end of the meeting that the supervisors should budget next year with plans to cut things down.
All supervisors were present.
