CLEARFIELD – Two people accused of conspiring to steal money from Lowes waived their rights to preliminary hearings on Wednesday.
Cherie Del-Re, 18 of West Decatur, faces 10 counts of criminal conspiracy and 10 counts of receiving stolen property. Amanda Leigey, 20 of West Decatur, faces charges of criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
A third alleged co-conspirator, James Dean Snyder, 21 of Clearfield, faces charges of criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Officer John Walker of the Lawrence Township Police Department was contacted by Lowes regarding a theft by an employee.
Walker made contact with loss prevention personnel and learned that they had been tracking Del-Re on the surveillance system. According to the loss prevention staff Del-Re was taking money from the registers she worked on.
Walker contacted Del-Re. According to the affidavit Del-Re admitted to taking money over a few months, around $1,600. She also reportedly told police that on two separate occasions she gave money to friends. She told walker that she would tell them to buy something cheap and then give them money in return.
The investigation led Walker to Leigey. Court records indicate that she admitted to taking money. She reportedly told Walker that Del-Re called her and told her to come to Lowes. She said that on Aug. 15 she went to Lowes and purchased a small American flag. She told Walker that Del-Re gave her $200 in change. She then told him that when Del-Re was done with work she retrieved the money from Leigey and gave her $20.
Walker also reported that on Aug. 9 Snyder went into Lowes and purchased Gatorade and was given $200 in change.
Both Del-Re and Leigey waived their rights to preliminary hearings and are free on unsecured bail. A warrant was issued for Snyder failing to show for court.
