Civil Lawsuit Against Clearfield DA on Hold
JOHNSTOWN – A civil lawsuit brought by two police officers against Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw will be put on hold until a federal judge can decide if it is barred by prosecutorial immunity.
U.S. District Judge Kim R. Gibson put the brakes on the case after a request by Shaw’s attorney, Marie Milie Jones of Pittsburgh, to stay further action.
The lawsuit had reached the stage of discovery, a process in which attorneys for both sides question potential witnesses to pin down the facts and issues of a case.
Jones asked Gibson if the lawsuit by the officers is barred because of immunity granted to elected officials in the performance of their jobs.

Clearfield Borough Council Hears Development Plans
CLEARFIELD – A little over a year ago Clearfield Borough Council enlisted the aid of developer Bob Yoder and Impact Pennsylvania Inc. to as Clearfield Borough’s consultant and developer in regard to projects inside the borough.
There were questions at the time as to what projects Yoder might undertake. Would it be a parking garage? Commercial properties? Senior or luxury housing?

Curwensville Borough Deals with Finances, Lays Off Long-Time Employee
CURWENSVILLE – Curwensville’s financial situation was the topic of choice at the Curwensville Borough Council meeting Thursday night.
Council covered much ground at the meeting on several intermingled topics. They voted to accept a loan for $50,000 in order to help pay the bills for the next two months. One alternative given to the loan would be to allow the borough to fall into bankruptcy, an option that quieted the council for a moment before deciding to vote for the loan. Another option was check to see if any matchless grants existed for municipalities in distress.
In efforts to save a penny where available, council also decided to take measures that would eventually see the insurance on the third police vehicle dropped down to cover only fire, theft and vandalism. There was consideration on just outright selling the vehicle as there are currently only two officers, but a combination of hope they might still need it eventually and worry about a low end offer kept it from going that far.

Six Year Old Struck by Jeep Suffers Major Injuries
CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Police Department reported that a 6-year-old child by a Jeep suffered major injuries.
According to police the child was riding an electric powered Bella Razor scooter. Police stated that she pulled into the path of a Jeep driven by a Clearfield woman in the parking lot at Edgewood Apartments. The woman applied her breaks but was unable to stop before striking the child.

CLEARFIELD – The Lawrnece Township Police Department has released an update into the status of a 6-year-old girl who was struck by a Jeep.
Police stated that the girl is now in stable condition.

PA Lt. Gov. Passes Away
HARRISBURG – Gov. Edward G. Rendell announced last night the passing of Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll.
“On behalf of all Pennsylvania, Midge and I extend heart-felt sympathy to Catherine’s family,” Rendell said. “Today we mourn the passing of one of the strongest, most dedicated public servants in Pennsylvania’s history. Our thoughts and prayers are with Catherine’s family. She will be deeply missed.

Scarnati to be Next Lt. Gov.
WARREN – Due to the unfortunate passing of Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll, Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) will be the next Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The swearing-in and transition of Scarnati will be determined in the near future.
Under the state constitution Scarnati is required to hold both Lieutenant Governor and State Senate positions at the same time.
“While I am proud to serve as the next Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth, my emotions are significantly tempered due to the passing of Catherine Baker Knoll,” Scarnati said. “She was a champion for working families and a true leader for Pennsylvania. Her presence and commitment will be sorely missed.”

Clearfield Elementary School Welcomes Vets on Veterans Day
CLEARFIELD – A yearly tradition, veterans and servicemen visited the Clearfield Elementary School to participate in showing young students the human face of the armed services and lessons regarding patriotism.
The presentation began with students leading the veterans from the school library, handing roses to each veteran, to the gymnasium where they sat in a row before the school body. Some students waved flags, but nearly all the students energetically enjoyed the show.

A Student’s View: Clearfield Elementary Honors Veterans
CLEARFIELD – Veterans from all Armed Forces came to the Clearfield Elementary School gymnasium to be honored by the students and staff in a Veterans Day program.
There were five student speakers. Other students escorted the veterans into the gymnasium, presenting each one with a rose and a certificate. Third Grade teacher Mr. Dennis Shaffner shared some history of the military. The staff and students then sang, “The Star Spangled Banner” and recited “The Pledge of Allegiance.”
