HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania’s Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll, who has been courageously battling neuroendocrine cancer since she was diagnosed with the disease earlier this summer, issued the following statement Wednesday after being released from Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland:
“My condition is good and we’re working at improving it each day. I have left Johns Hopkins Hospital and entered a physical therapy program to deal with an infection that has slowed my recovery. I fully intend to return to my duties as Lieutenant Governor, but I don’t have a timetable for that.
“I have not considered stepping down. It took more than two centuries for a woman to occupy my office, so I’m not eager to let this illness force me to vacate it.
“My family and I appreciate the many good wishes that have been sent our way. We are grateful for the respect for our privacy and I look forward to getting through this chapter and returning to the business of the commonwealth and its citizens.”
