Curwensville– The Curwensville Angler’s Restocking Program will hold a Walleye stocking at the Curwensville Lake on Sunday.
Last week a large group of volunteers turned out to release the American Eel into the waters and to honor Curwensville school teacher, Amy Sutika and her eighth grade class for their participation in a trout raising project sponored by Trout Unlimited and the PA Fish and Boat Commission.
CARP members are looking for more volunteers to assist with the stocking Sunday when more than 3,500 Walleyes will be released into the lake. Set-up begins at 11 a.m., with stocking at noon. Nets and buckets will be provided, but motorboats, pontoon boats and others are still needed, and spectators are always welcome.
There will be no admission charge to enter the lake.
CARP started the Walleye-stocking program in 2004 by stocking over 1,300 walleye in the 10- to 12-inch range in Curwensville Lake. In 2005, they stocked over 3,000 mature size Walleye, and this year they will be stocking over 2,700 ranging in size from 5- to 12-inches. The three Walleye stockings by CARP have invested over $20,000 to improve the Curwensville Lake and West Branch of the Susquehanna fishery.
