This was a meet for the girls that we had marked on our calendars as a bench mark to see how we could stack up against one of the toughest teams in the district. I was impressed with how hard our girls raced against a strong Punxsutawney team. Our girls all went out really fast and answered the challenge but ended up falling a little short in the end. We talked at the end of the meet and I think the girls understand what they have to do if they want to win a District Championship.
Gwenn Porter was the top finisher putting up her fastest time of the season. Bethany Feathers showed a strong finishing kick in the last half of the race passing several Punxsutawney and Marion Center girls to gather up some much needed points. Once again Juliana Mellguard had an impressive performance lowering her season best time for the fourth consecutive race. Also turning in their fastest times were freshman Rebecca Ward and Katie Stein. The young girls are really excelling through the middle part of the season and I have to give some of our upperclassmen credit for their leadership.
In the boys meet Tyler Bumbarger finished in the top spot on the team with Andrew Yingling coming in right behind. Freshman Jessie Neyman ran an impressive race running his season best time. They boys raced two really strong teams Tuesday and saw some very good competition. I think this type of race is what the boys needed to prepare themselves for their upcoming races.
