STATE COLLEGE – Potter/McKean built a 9-1 lead and held off the Clearfield Babe Ruth League 14-Year-Old All-Stars in the late innings to win the District 8 elimination bracket semifinal 9-6 at Spectrum Field Saturday afternoon, thereby qualifying for the state tournament at Williamsport later this month.
Poor field conditions because of overnight rains caused the start of the game to be delayed for two hours.
Potter/McKean struck for three runs in the first, third and fourth innings off loser Kyler Kephart and reliever Jarrett Fulmer,
Jury Okerlund pacing the attack with two singles and a three-run homer.
Pat Valenti contributed a single and a double to the 12-hit attack.
Okerlund also chalked up the victory, pitching six innings and striking out three. He walked six and gave up five hits and six runs.
Mike Miller struck out two and walked one in the seventh.
Justin Kanouff singled and doubled and Fulmer doubled for Clearfield, which was ousted in two straight games.
Kephart Kyler logged 2-2/3 innings on the mound, striking out four, walking two and allowing six hits and six runs.
In one inning, Fulmer had one strikeout and one walk. He gave up four hits and three runs.
Derrick Snyder finished with 2-1/3 scoreless innings. He struck out one and allowed two hits.
