STATE COLLEGE – West End of Williamsport dropped the Clearfield Babe Ruth League All-Stars into the elimination bracket of the District 8 Prep 14-Year-Old Tournament with an 8-1 first-round win at Spectrum Field Friday night.
Manager Ken Duckett\’s team was held to three hits by West End pitcher Gantz, who struck out five and walked one.
Jarrett Fulmer drove in Clearfield\’s run with a third-inning double after Gantz hit Maverick Vanderburgh and walked Levi Picard.
Justin Kanouff also had a double for Clearfield.
West End solved Kurtis Krise for all nine of its hits in six innings. Krise struck out two and walked one.
Derrick Snyder pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Clearfield will play Potter/McKean in an all-important elimination game Saturday at 11 a.m.
At stake will be a trip to the state tournament at Williamsport because West End and State College, which will host the multi-state regional, are guaranteed berths.
State College nipped Potter/McKean by one run in the District 8 opener Friday afternoon.
The elimination bracket final is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, with the championship game on tap Sunday at 1 p.m. Should another game be necessary, it will start at 4 o\’clock.
