CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Recreation Park Field will be one of 12 sites for this weekend\’s Bellefonte Showdown XXVI, giving the Clearfield American Legion Post No. 6 team four home games in the Mid-Atlantic Wooden Bat Summer Showcase tourney for the second year in a row.
The 6-5 Chiefs are one of 33 teams in the 19-and-Under Division.
Games are booked for 12:30, 3:00 and 5:30 Friday and Saturday.
Clearfield, which finished 2-1-1 last year, will play the first and last games both afternoons.
Manager Sid Lansberry\’s club is paired against Falls, Pa., Legion Post No. 834 and FSK Legion Post No. 11 of Frederick, Md., on Friday. Last year, Falls was 28-12 and Lower Bucks County League runner-up while FSK was 38-11 and Western Maryland League champion and state runner-up.
On Saturday, Clearfield is matched against the Kiski (Pa.) Baseball Club and Laurel (Md.) Legion Post No. 60. Kiski is coming off a 24-10-1 season in which it placed fourth in the Quad County North Palomino League. Laurel was 21-11 and Maryland State League Montgomery Division regular season champion in 2007.
The visiting teams will meet in the 3 o\’clock games.
Eight teams with the best records will be seeded for games at 9 and 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning in Bellefonte, with the championship and third-place games at Governors Park and the fifth-place and seventh-place games at the high school field.
The tourney had attracted teams from New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Ohio as well as Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Clearfield will be joined by Jefferson County League rivals Punxsutawney and the Laurel Eye Clinic of Brookville.
Also competed will be Philipsburg, Bellefonte, State College, Pleasant Gap, Penns Valley, Beech Creek and Mifflin County of the Central Penn League.
