For the second year this past May, the Clearfield County Conservation District held the Upper West Branch Triathlon and for the first time a 5K Fun Walk. The success of this event is due to the great number of people and organizations that volunteered their time. First, we thank all the emergency personnel that assisted. Curwensville Ambulance, Curwensville Fire Police, Curwensville Fire Department, Curwensville Borough Police, Lawrence Township Fire Police and Glen Richey Quick Response were all present to help ensure the safety of all the participants.
We thank Stacey and Phyllis Bressler for their patience and use of their parking lot while all the participants awaited the start of the race. We would also like to recognize Curwensville Lake and the Clearfield County Recreation & Tourism Authority for their support and use of the facilities at Curwensville Lake. A big thank you goes out to Lawrence Township for marking the racecourse.
Next, a huge amount of gratitude goes towards Greg Winters and family for the use of their yard for kayaks, canoes and bicycles. Without their cooperation and patience this race would not have been possible.
Thank you to the many volunteers who were also present along the course of the triathlon and at the Lake. Individuals from Clearfield County Senior Environment Corps, Moshannon Creek Watershed Coalition, 12 Step Program, Joe Kendrick and the Aftercare Youth Program, Mike Gill and the Clearfield High School Watershed Club manned corners of the course and assisted at canoe/kayak/bike transition areas. The Clearfield High School Cheerleaders provided support along the course by cheering on the athletes. The New Millport Women’s Club prepared and served the post-race meal. J.G. Warehouse, Goodman’s Foodliner, West Side Distributing, Jack’s Distributing, Lowes of Clearfield, Sheetz of Clearfield, Durandetta’s Farm Market, and Aletta’s Farm Market donated fruit and water for the participants. Thank you also to Waggin’ Trains for providing goodie bags for the dogs who participated in our 5K Walk.
Thank you to the many other local businesses that provided donations and/or door prizes to help support our event, as well as, the many individuals not mentioned above who helped make our event a success. There are too many to name, but we are thankful to each and every one of you.
Lastly, to all the participants; thanks for coming out. We hope you enjoyed part of what Clearfield County has to offer and we hope to see you next year!
