CLEARFIELD- A new book exchange is taking a novel approach to helping Clearfield County animals at Waggin’ Trains on South Second Street in Clearfield. Mountain Laurel Kennel Club.
Proceeds from the exchange will be earmarked for Animal Welfare Council and Mountain Laurel Kennel Club programs such as emergency medical care, spay and neutering assistance and replacement of inadequate shelters, according to Shari Trythall, owner of Waggin’ Trains and member of both organizations.
Membership in the exchange is $15 but every paperback book donated is worth $1 toward the fee. Once a member, you receive three gold coins and, each time a book is checked out, you pay $1 and turn in a gold coin.
Donations of books are also needed to keep the exchange fresh and interesting, Trythall noted.
“Won’t it be great to read all year long for just $1 a book, knowing you’re helping animals. We are especially excited about this project with the AAUW book sale being in its last year. We hope all the rabid readers come here now,” she said.
Waggin’ Trains is located at 1226 South Second Street, next to Curves and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call 765-0123.
