Reynoldsville–Hot weather and 98 race cars made for a great evening at Hummingbird Speedway. The Prontock Beer RWD Four Cylinders led off the features with a caution free run that saw Don Henry and Orin Taylor on the front row. Taylor was able to shoot past on the outside of 1 and 2 to take the lead from Henry. Taylor built up a big lead and with no cautions to tighten up the race Henry could do nothing but watch. A great run by Bill Washek brought him from the 15th starting spot all the way to third followed by Bill McMillen Sr. and Scott Smith.

The Street Stock feature was next and featured a bad luck good luck incident right away. Just before the green flag was ready to wave the lights went out as the cars were heading down the back stretch. That caused a delay as it took the track crew about a half hour to get all the track lights back up and running. The fortunate part was the cars were going slow at the time. One more lap and it could have been ugly. Joe Kot started from the pole with Dan Smeal on the outside of the front row. When the green dropped Fuzzy Fields from the third starting spot got inside Kot and took the lead out of turn 2 and the rest they say is history. As Fields was checking out Dan Smeal was steadily working his way from the 13th starting position toward the front. Smeal passed Bob Rosman on the last lap to finish second. Denny Curry came home fourth followed by Tom Slack.

The Brookville Wood Products/BWP Bats Limited Late Models thundered on to the track in our next feature and the cars were really hooking up to the track well. Bob McMillen was on the pole with Eric Moore on the outside of the front row. On lap 2 Dave Shagla got tied up with another car going down the back stretch. Shagla looked at first like he was going to spin right in front of about 5 or 6 cars, but he over corrected and slammed head on into the wall at the entrance to turn 3. As the safety workers reached the car the first report was that Shagla was ok which brought cheers from the crowd after the hard impact. His car was not as fortunate. After the restart Bob McMillen would lead the next 9 laps until Eric Moore took over. The attrition continued as one by one cars started dropping out. Just 7 of the 17 cars that started would finish. Moore was able to hold off McMillen for a while, but a late caution for a spin tightened up the field. McMillen took advantage and grabbed back the lead with three to go. Moore would finish second with Denny Fenton in third. Dwayne Brooks finished fourth but was disqualified for being light. Jake Shady and Bruce Raybuck rounded out the top five.

The Pure Stock Feature had four different leaders in just 15 laps. Rob Molnar sat on the pole with John Barley also on the front row. At the green Kyle Shannon spun and broke in turn 1. On the restart Molnar led lap one, but lost the lead to Mike Donahue who started 5th. Donahue led 3 laps and looked very much like he was going to drive away from the field, but something broke on his car on lap four bringing out the caution. Ray Reed picked up the lead and would lead the next 8 laps. That’s when Brian Rhed, who started next to last, claimed the top spot and led the final three laps. Ray Reed followed in second then Molnar, Richard Maxim and Jeff Krach.

The Miller Brothers Furniture FWD Four Cylinders Feature finished the show with the biggest surprise of the night. An all female front row saw Brittany Bouch and Jessica Brooks lead the field to the green. Brooks led the first two laps. Brittany Bouch spun out in turn 2 on lap 2. When the green dropped again, Dustin Fields made the pass on Brooks to take the lead and many thought that the race was over. But it was far from over. A great battle shaped up as Stephanie Lucas really had her car working on the high side with fields clinging to the low line. The two battled it out door to door for the last 5 laps. Lucas was finally able to make the pass stick on the last lap to take the win and become the first female to win at Hummingbird this season. To say the ladies in the crowd were happy would be an understatement. Fields ran second with Stephanie’s husband Mike Lucas finishing third, Dave Kohler ran 4th and Doug Surra was 5th.
