Bobbi Jo Morgan Found Guilty in Vehicular Homicide While DUI Case
CLEARFIELD – A Patton woman was found guilty of hitting a grandmother and granddaughter while driving under the influence of drugs.
Bobbi Jo Morgan was found guilty of two counts of homicide by vehicle while DUI, two counts of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, two counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of homicide by vehicle, and two counts of involuntary manslaughter.
The verdict came in after the jury deliberated for a little more than an hour on Wednesday afternoon. As the verdict was read members of the Kitchen family wept, while Morgan appeared calm.

Commissioners Urge Officials to Attend LMIP Meeting
CLEARFIELD – Commissioner, Mark McCracken said the board received a letter and was invited to attend a Local Municipality Involvement Process (LMIP) meeting to discus an application received by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the proposed Harmony Residual Waste Landfill in Chest Township.
At the meeting, DEP will provide information about the regulations, policies and permitting process.
According to the letter, both the local municipalities and the county will have the opportunity to identify concerns in respect to the project. Although the goal is not to respond to issues, notice will be taken of any comment.
McCracken said officials of the municipalities should plan to attend and give a “small presentation.”

Outdoor Furnace Ordinance Nearing Fruition in Sandy Township
DUBOIS – Sandy Township may soon have an outdoor furnace ordinance.
The Sandy Township Supervisors and their legal counsel have been exploring the issue for some time now, and Monday night they gave their solicitor the green light to draft a proposed ordinance.
The proposed ordinance would limit which zones outdoor furnaces would be allowed in, what fuels could be burned, a limit to what months the outdoor furnaces could be used in and the stack size.
“I think we should move forward,” said Mark Sullivan, supervisor. “We have a problem.”

Commissioners Support CCAAA Efforts
CLEARFIELD – In order to better solidify its letter of inquiry, the Clearfield County Commissioners has approved offering their own written support for the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, as it seeks grant funding through the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc.
“We’re asking for your written support,” Sue Kordish, director of planning and program operations, said. “We would like our letter of inquiry to look as strong as possible.”
She said if the agency received the funding, it would be used to create a coalition of care providers, allowing them to expand and strengthen the network of information, resources, services and supports in Clearfield County.

ATV Stolen, Found in Sandy Ridge
SANDY RIDGE – State police in Philipsburg reported that a stolen ATV in Sandy Ridge may have a link to another ATV theft on Tuesday in Osceola Mills.
According to police a 14-year-old Osceola Mills boy allegedly stole an ATV from Sandy Ridge resident Samuel P. McCully.
Once the McCulley’s realized the ATV was missing, a McCulley boy went looking for and found the stolen ATV along the railroad tracks near Station Hill. The suspect was there at the time.

More Events Added to Riverfront Festival
CLEARFIELD – Locals already know that the place to go for carnival food, live bands and crafts is the Clearfield Riverfront Festival, being held Thursday through Saturday, but now more events are being added to the schedule.
A canoe and kayak race will be held Saturday in conjunction with the festival. The first race starts at 10:30 a.m.with participants loading into the Susquehanna River, named 2005 Pennsylvania River of the Year and a 2006 Premier Destination River by the American Canoe Association, near the Curwensville Civic Center. Racers will complete a 10-mile downriver race to end at Lower Witmer Park in Clearfield.

Grampian Man Wanted by Police Captured
CLEARFIELD COUNTY – Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers reported that a Grampian man wanted by police was captured late last month.
According to the press release Randy James Hanes failed to appear for a preliminary hearing. He was facing charges related to a motorcycle theft on Oct. 10, 2006. After failing to appear a bench warrant was issued for Hanes’ arrest.

CASD Overcomes Shortfall, Reaches 3 Mills
CLEARFIELD – After facing a more than $250,000 shortfall, the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors achieved its original goal of 3 mills at Monday night’s budget work session.
Superintendent, Dr. Denise Keltz said the administration had recommended the secondary math teacher position not be filled at the high school.
“It was a position we were going to add. But we have decided to hold off on that for now,” she said. “I’ve spoken with Principal, John Law, who said it was a position we could operate without this year.”
