NCAA wrestling All-American Matt Kyler of Clearfield was honored by the Army Athletic Association as the outstanding sophomore male athlete May 28 during the first Black Knight Awards, an award-show format similar to the ESPY Awards.
Emcee Rich DeMarco, the voice of Army Athletics and assistant athletic director for multimedia and broadcasting, presents the award to Kyler, who placed sixth in the NCAA Division I Tournament and set a Black Knight record for wins in a season with 43.
A crowd of more than 700 people sat through the 90-minute affair that included a video presentation of each nominee. Outstanding male and female athletes were selected for each class.
