BELLEFONTE – The Clearfield American Legion Post No. 6 baseball team was unable to hang on to a 6-0 lead as Bellefonte rallied for six runs in the fifth inning to win the non-league game 7-6 Monday evening.
James Zimmermann singled three times and drove in three runs while Derek Danver rapped two doubles and a single for the Chiefs, who fell to 3-3.
Manager Sid Lansberry\’s club jumped in front 4-0 in the first inning.
Jarrin Campman walked, stole second and scored on Zimmermann\’s first hit. Bandit starter Lance Leathers walked Adam Jury and hit Kyle Kline, Parker Herrington and Danver, forcing in two runs. Justin Hoffman picked up an RBI with a fielder\’s choice.
Zimmermann knocked in runs in the second and fourth innings.
Bellefonte, which had lost 7-6 to Philipsburg and 10-9 to State College over the weekend, got to Corey Bookhamer for one run in the fourth and then combined five hits with two walks and an error for its rally in the fifth.
Hoffman relieved and suffered the loss when Josh Wensel doubled home the tying and winning runs.
Wensel had three hits and pitched seven innings in relief to notch the win.
Clearfield has a 6 p.m. Jefferson County League game at Brookville Tuesday.
