HESSTON, PA – Rick Singleton of Hesston picked up the limited late model feature on Saturday night at Hesston Speedway for his first win there is quite a while. Cris Edwards Jr. of Hesston won the street stock portion while Gary Morder won the hobby event. The special division was the 600 Sprints with Jake Murphy picking up the win.
Singleton took the lead from fellow front row starter Tim Smith Jr. at the start of the limited late model feature with Smith in second and Derek Byler in third. The top three were pulling away but not for long, as Tim Snare Jr., Rance Garlock and Donnie Hedge closed in to make it a six car fight for the lead.
That battle dwindled to five when Hedge broke down with only six laps in the books. The battle continued with Singleton still in the lead and Byler now in second and Smith falling to third. The fight at the front was close the whole time though, as Mike Shoemaker came to the front from his 20th starting spot to make the race a six car battle again but when it was drawing to a conclusion Smith was back in second and along side of Singleton, who held him off for a while but he didn’t hold off Garlock, who took second with three laps to go, as he closed on Singleton, but Singleton held on for the win. The top five were Singleton, Garlock, Smith, Byler and Shoemaker. Heat wins went to Tim Smith Jr., Rick Singleton and Tim Snare Jr.
The street stock feature saw Cris Edwards Jr. and Wayne Irvin lead the field to the start with Edwards wiring the field for the win. He was chased by Bill Henney for a couple of laps before he broke and pitted then Irvin took the second spot before Khi Swanger took second on lap five. Swanger pulled along side of Edwards several times, but Edwards pulled off the win. The top five were: Edwards, Swanger, Tim Brindle, Tom Williams and Chad Parks. Heat wins went to Tom Williams and Bill Henney.
The 600 micro sprints took to the oval with Timmy Barrick and Jake Murphy on the front row. The green unfurled with Murphy taking the lead and setting a torrid pace, but fourth place starter Tyler Walton was coming to the front. He moved into second on lap six and kept reeling in the leader, then on lap 18 Walton took the lead and pulled away from Murphy, but a caution on lap 18 slowed the race and that allowed Murphy to regain the lead on the restart with Walton falling to second and not being able to catch Murphy with two laps to go. The top five at the line were: Murphy, Walton, Jim Young, Barrick and Travis Saner. Heat wins went to Timmy Barrick and Jake Murphy.
The hobby stocks went green with Gary Morder and Jeff Shoemaker on the front row. At the start it was Morder who took the lead and basically never looked back, taking the victory with relative ease. At the finish it was Morder over Josh Berrier, Shoemaker, Chris Chaney and Carl Snare. Heat wins went to Jeff Shoemaker, Gary Morder and Terry Norris.
