CURWENSVILLE – Two potential ordinances aimed at ATV’s and dirt bikes were discussed at the Curwensville Borough Council meeting Monday night.
Council President Mark Curulla said he has been receiving phone calls from people complaining about people using ATV’s and dirt bikes within the borough. He said that in some instances the noise can be heard over the phone while he is taking the complaint.
Under the proposed ordinance, ATV’s would be permitted for plowing snow on sidewalks, driveways and parking lots. The use of dirt bikes would no longer be permitted on residential lots or sidewalks.
“They’re a nuisance,” said Curulla.
Council member Duane Wriglesworth disagreed with Curulla. He said he had no problem with people running ATV’s in their yards.
“Some people use ATV’s to haul lumber,” said Wriglesworth. He also indicated that if sound is the problem, the borough’s noise ordinance should be enforced.
Curulla countered, stating that a few people can ruin it for everyone else.
One member of the public asked whether it would affect smaller, child-sized ATV’s. Curulla said that it was common sense that the ordinance would pertain to full-sized ATV’s.
Another member of the public attempted to speak but was cut off by Curulla.
The borough’s solicitor will look into the potential ordinances.
