CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Lady Tide softball team added two wins to their 2008 total Thursday afternoon with convincing victories over visiting Brockway. The Lady Tide now stand at 16-1 after the double wins.
In a game suspended in Brockway on April 23rd with the Tide leading 7-0, Curwensville finished off the Lady Rovers 13-0 in five innings. Then in the regularly scheduled contest, or the second game, the Tide held Brockway scoreless in six innings this time for a 10-0 win.
The Tide didn’t waste anytime in the resumption of the suspended game to put away the Lady Rovers. Holly Lansberry picked up the win with a two hit shutout which included 11 strikeouts.
Curwensville led 8-0 after four innings but added five in the top of the fifth to shorten the game to five innings.
Home runs were the highlights for Curwensville in the fifth as Lansberry and Shannon McDonald both connected for round trippers. Lansberry connected on a three run blast over left center followed by a two run shot by McDonald that cleared the left field fence by plenty. McDonald also had a double on the day.
Ashley Demchak, hitting a ton and a half lately, went three for four to boost the Curwensville offense. The Lady Tide had eight of nine players hit safely in the contest.
Only Julie Genevero and Sarah Anderson managed singles against Lansberry who stretched her record to 13-1 on the year.
Last year the Lady Tide and Lady Rovers split, with Brockway winning the first game 5-4 and Curwensville the second, 1-0.

The second game was just like the first one, all Lady Tide, as Curwensville extended it’s winning streak to 15 with another shutout, 10-0, that went six innings. It was the Tide’s ninth shutout in it’s last eleven games. They have now given up only one run in the last 41 innings.
Junior Curwensville pitching ace, Holly Lansberry, reached a milestone in the second inning when she struck out Lady Rover Jalina Sabatose. For Lansberry it was strikeout number 500 on her fabulous career at Curwensville. The Tide pitching machine now has a 14-1 record for 2008.
Curwensville pounded out 16 hits off of LeeAnn Holt of Brockway in game two. Holt actually was only down 2-0 to the Tide after five innings. Then Curwensville put up eight in the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up the win, 10-0. The tenth run came with just one out that ended the contest.
Erin Bressler led Curwensville with three hits. Lansberry, Jenessa Stiles, Sara Clark, Shannon McDonald and Ashley Demchak all had two hits for the Lady Tide. Stiles rapped two doubles in the battle, while Lansberry and Demchak had one each.
Brockway’s only hit was in the fourth inning when Sarah Anderson stroked a single. In the second game Lansberry struck out 10.
Head coach Allen Leigey of the Tide said after the double win, “We just have so many girls hitting well, Clark(Sara), Demchak (Ashley), Bressler (Erin), Shannon (McDonald) it is really a site to see.”
About his ace hurler, “Holly (Lansberry) is just amazing. 500 strikeouts is an incredible number. She sure has delivered for us with her pitching and now she is getting hot at the plate.”
