SHEFFIELD – It was a long way to go to get a win, but the Curwensville Lady Tide softball squad will definitely take it. After all, it was win number thirteen in a row, as Curwensville hammered their hosts, Sheffield, 16-0.
Curwensville started fast and ended it quick as the game only went five innings in another shutout for junior Holly Lansberry. The Lady Tide ace is now 12-1 on the year after tossing a one hitter that included 12 strikeouts. Curwensville has only given up one run in the last 30 innings.
Ashley Demchak continued her torrid hitting as the Lady Tide junior catcher had three hits while driving in four runs. One of the hits was a base loaded double in the second inning that drove home three.
Tide first baseman Stacey Johnson added two hits, as she drove in three runs, two with a first inning double.
Sara Clark, also wielding a hot bat, had three hits on the day with two RBI’s. Lansberry and Shannon McDonald had two hits apiece as Curwensville picked up a total of 16.
The only hit that Sheffield could muster was a harmless single by the first baseman Craker.
Curwensville head coach Allen Leigey said afterwards, “Ashley (Demchak) is in such a groove it is just a pleasure to watch her every game. She is a true number four hitter.” As for his first baseman, Leigey echoed, “ Stacey (Johnson) is always doing something positive for us. Today she made the most of her two hits with those three RBI’s.”
The Lady Tide, 14-1, are to host Brockway Thursday afternoon. It will be somewhat of a doubleheader as the Tide and Lady Rovers will resume a game that was suspended due to weather conditions, in Brockway, back on April 23rd, with Curwensville leading in the top of the fourth inning, 7-0, with two outs. Game two will follow immediately. The festivities are scheduled to start at 4:15 pm.
