Adult CPR on Monday, May 5,
First Aid on Tuesday, May 20,
Adult CPR on Tuesday, June 3,
Infant and Child CPR on Tuesday, June 10,
First Aid on Tuesday, June 17.

Give the gift of life…
The DuBois Area Catholic School will sponsor an American Red Cross blood drive on Monday, May 5 from 3 pm to 7 pm in the cafeteria. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the Catholic School at 371-3060. Schedule an appointment to give the gift of life and support the DuBois Catholic School. Anyone who last donated on or before March 10 is eligible to give blood at this drive.
The DuBois Area Barbershop Chorus will sponsor an American Red Cross blood drive on Saturday, May 10 from 9 am to 3 pm at the First United Methodist Church on Long Ave. Anyone who last donated on March 15 is eligible to donate. Is your child ready to baby-sit…?
A babysitter’s training course is being offered by the DuBois Chapter of the American Red Cross from 8:30 AM to 4 PM on Sat., May 17, 2008 at the chapter office, 152 W. Long Ave., DuBois.
This program is intended for youth ages 11-15, providing them with a range of injury prevention and safety skills as well as training in decision making, basic child care, leadership, and professionalism. The program also includes first aid and infant/child CPR.
The cost is $15, which includes the Babysitter’s Handbook. An optional babysitter backpack kit is also available for $16.00.

Are you prepared to help in a disaster…?
Each year, the American Red Cross responds immediately to more than 70,000 disasters, including house or apartment fires (the majority of disaster responses), hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous materials spills, transportation accidents, explosions, and other natural and man-made disasters.
Although the American Red Cross is not a government agency, its authority to provide disaster relief was formalized when, in 1905, the Red Cross was chartered by Congress to “carry on a system of national and international relief in time of peace and apply the same in mitigating the sufferings caused by pestilence, famine, fire, floods, and other great national calamities, and to devise and carry on measures for preventing the same.” The Charter is not only a grant of power, but also an imposition of duties and obligations to the nation, to disaster victims, and to the people who generously support its work with their donations.
Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people’s immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, health services and mental health services to address basic human needs. In addition to these services, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently.
The Red Cross also feeds emergency workers, handles inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area, provides blood and blood products to disaster victims, and helps those affected by disaster to access other available resources.
The DuBois Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer basic disaster training that will enable potential volunteers to aid our community during such times of disaster. Participants will be introduced to American Red Cross Disaster Services, learn how volunteers and community members prepare for, respond to and recover from emergency situations.
The following is an overview of courses offered in May by the DuBois Chapter:
Mass Care Overview
This course will introduce you to the activities that support a disaster relief operation. These activities may include but are not limited to sheltering, feeding, bulk distribution of items and information about the availability of these services. Mass Care will be held on Thursday, May 8 at 7 PM.
Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance
Client Casework helps identify and meet immediate disaster-caused needs by providing emergency assistance. Assistance can be in the form of providing information, listening and guidance; in the form of distributing personal care items and cleaning materials; or providing financial assistance so people can begin their recovery by purchasing immediate needs items. Client Casework will be help on Thursday, May 15 at 6 PM and Thursday, May 22 at 6 PM. This is a two-day class.
