FLINTON -Another day, another game. Only this time the Curwensville Lady Tide softball squad picked up the Moshannon Valley League (MVL) title with this one.
The Lady Tide won their tenth straight game on Thursday afternoon as they hit the road and defeated the Glendale Lady Vikings 14-0.
Holly Lansberry threw her second straight shortened game no-hitter. This time the Tide junior went five innings, striking out 13 along the way. Lansberry now has a 9-1 overall season record and three no-hitters in shortened contests. She also stroked three hits to help her own cause against the Lady Vikings.
Curwensville coach Allen Leigey spoke of his ace, “Holly (Lansberry) is really in a grove. She knows what needs done and just goes out there and does it.”
Ashley Demchak led the Lady Tide with four hits and four RBI’s. The junior catcher hit a three run home run (her first of the year) in the fourth inning with a shot over dead center. Leigey had this to say, “When Ashley (Demchak) gets it going, look out. She is definitely one of our feared hitters.”
Sara Clark and Tess Bloom had two hits apiece. Bloom, Demchak and Jenessa Stiles also had doubles for Curwensville.
The only base runner for Glendale was when Lady Viking, Brooke Legrand, reached base in the fourth inning on a Tide throwing error.
It was Curwensville’s fourth straight MVL Championship. In 2005 it was a shared title.
Curwensville will entertain Brookville on Friday afternoon at Riverside Stadium with a start time of 4:15 pm. In 2007 the Lady Tide beat the Lady Raiders 5-0.
NOTES: Curwensville travels to Sheffield Saturday in a game that was originally scheduled to start at 11 am. The contest will now be an afternoon affair starting at 4:15 pm.
Also, the April 23rd Brockway game that was suspended in the top of the fourth with the Lady Tide winning 7-0, will now be finished Thursday, May 8th before the Tide and Rovers play their second game of the season.
