AMESVILLE – Staying unbeaten in the Moshannon Valley League (MVL), and winning number seven in a row, was a good day for the Curwensville Lady Tide softball team. The Lady Tide dumped the Moshannon Valley Damsels Friday afternoon, 12-0, in what was their first complete road game of the season. The game was called after 6 innings due to the ten run rule.
Curwensville now stretches it’s record to 8-1 on the year and stays unbeaten in the MVL at 3-0. The Lady Tide can clinch the MVL title with a win over Glendale this coming Thursday. The Damsels fall to 7-5 on the season and 2-2 in the MVL.
The Lady Tide had a giant offensive afternoon as they banged out 15 hits, with six players picking up at least two each. Shannon McDonald led the hitting fest with a double and two singles while teammate, Sara Clark, had three RBI’s with her two singles. Other Lady Tide with two hits were Jenessa Stiles, Stacey Johnson, Tess Bloom and Erin Bressler. Johnson also doubled for Curwensville while Stiles picked up two RBI’s.
Curwensville tallied two runs each in the top of the first and second innings to go out in front 4-0 after two. It was the top of the sixth that paved the way for the victorious visitors, as they pushed across eight more runs to set the final score at 12-0.
Head coach Allen Leigey said afterwards, “Sara (Clark) and Shannon (McDonald) have really been swinging hot bats for us, and I sure hope that continues.” Then he added, “Actually, the whole team has been doing well from the plate. Today, we picked up 15 hits which should enable us to win when you factor in Holly’s (Lansberry) pitching.”
Moshannon Valley had three hits off of winning pitcher Holly Lansberry (7-1) with Chelsea Walstrom getting two. Walstrom had the only extra base hit for the Damsels, a double.
Lansberry now has a total of 102 strikeouts in her eight games from the circle.
The Lady Tide will host Brookville on Monday afternoon at 4:15 pm. In 2007 Curwensville shutout the Lady Raiders, 5-0.
