I am a voter who lives in Clearfield, and this morning at 7:15, I drove to the 4th ward polling place at the Living Bread Ministries, former no.
4 Hose House on 628 Daisy St. I found that the street was shut down to traffic due to construction for a block in all directions.
As a political science graduate, I understand the necessity of making voting easy, accessible, and convenient–otherwise, people may not vote. Obviously, whoever planned this did not feel the same way, as this polling place was none of the above. Elderly, handicapped, timid, or otherwise “busy” people will find a multitude of excuses not to vote–which directly hinders our political system. I am 24 years old, and did not have a problem walking a block and a half to the building to cast my vote, but others may not be able.
I would just want to add that the volunteers did a great job today, and it would be a shame if those women working at that polling place did not get the turnout that we all hoped for.
I feel that someone should know about it, and maybe some media reporting the issue will light a fire under the people that planned today’s voting logistics.
Thank you,
Matt Kephart
