DUBOIS – DuBois Regional Medical Center has created Moms Offering Moms Support or MOMS, a support group for women experiencing postpartum depression.
It will meet from 3-4 p.m. for the first time on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the hospital library on the third floor at DRMC East off Maple Avenue in DuBois. Interested participants can use entrance A of the hospital and follow the signs to the elevators near the Wheelchair Clinic on the ground floor. Signs on the third floor will lead to the room.
Postpartum depression affects 15-20 percent of mothers, according to information from the Postpartum Support International Web site.
“It’s different than the ‘baby blues’,” according to Dawn Erickson, lead recreational therapist at Behavioral Health Services of DuBois Regional Medical Center. “It lasts longer, and it takes over your ability to be the mom you expected and hoped you would be.”
